Q-emuLator for Windows 95/NT - Version 1.0.1 - June 9th, 1998
=============================================================
A brief README file
===================

What is it?
===========
Q-emuLator is an emulator of the Sinclair QL, a home computer built
in the United Kingdom starting from 1984.

Q-emuLator runs in a Windows 95 or Windows NT environment. Another
version for the Mac OS is also available.

The author of Q-emuLator is Daniele Terdina. He can be contacted by
e-mail at danielet@geocities.com.

Unregistered copies of Q-emuLator have limited capabilities. You can
choose between 'Demo' mode and 'Limited' mode.
In 'Demo' mode the emulator runs at full speed, but you cannot write
to files and can only load the included demonstrative QL program.
In 'Limited' mode you can freely access files, but speed is limited
to 25% of the original QL's speed and there's no sound.
Unregistered copies of Q-emuLator don't offer many features present in
the registered version, like access to serial ports, parallel ports
and built-in ram disk driver.

Where do I find up-to-date information about Q-emuLator?

How do I register?
==================
Q-emuLator is a shareware program: if you continue to use it after a
trial period of ten days, you should pay the registration fee.
To register, run the 'Register' application in the 'register'
directory. You can choose between many methods of payment, like
cheques, credit card and cash. Payments are sent to the Kagi payment
service. Kagi collects the fees and sends them to the author.
After a few days from when you register, you receive by e-mail a
unique serial number that allows you to unlock all the Q-emuLator's
features.
You can choose between paying only for the current version of
Q-emuLator ($40), or for an unlimited registration ($60), that allows
you to unlock the full potential of all the versions of Q-emuLator
ever to be made. Even if you register only for the current version
(version 1), you can still receive for free all the bug fixes and
minor upgrades for version 1. Future new major versions of Q-emuLator
are expected to be quite faster and offer some new features.

How do I start using Q-emuLator?
================================
You need a QL ROM image. As soon as you have one, you can launch
the emulator and run your QL software. A QL demo program is also
included in the Q-emuLator package. The manual (should come with this
readme file, in HTML format) explains how to obtain QL ROM images, how
to install them and details Q-emuLator's features and interface.
